An update on our crazy-wonderful life

So I have once again fallen woefully behind in the blogging world. The last time i posted I was in my second trimester of pregnancy and Rick was about to start classes. Wow, so much has happened since then that I'm not sure I can do it all justice. I will give a basic update now (so I can't procrastinated again) and have to come back to give more details about specific events.

Rick started his first semester of pre-med classes. He was taking biology, chemistry and, because of a weird policy on the transfer of credits from his bacholer's degree, a repeat of college algebra. He loved the science classes and excelled in them. He put a lot of time into studying and it paid off with all A's at the end of the semester.

I grew bigger and bigger. My throwing up was under control but the last trimester brought nuclear heartburn and nearly crippling backaches. Rick also had a lot of fun laughing at me when I got stuck on the couch or the floor, although he did always help me up after he finished laughing. This usually took longer than I liked, especially since I generally discovered I was stuck when I tried to get up to go to the bathroom. As my due date loomed closer and closer, I became more desperate for the baby to just get here already. I called my mom one day and cried to her about how horrible I felt and she decided that she would come out to Colorado to keep me sane until the boy made his appearance.

My mom and brother Robin arrived late Tuesday/early Wednesday (11/30-12/1) and I went into labor Wednesday evening (on my due date). Sixty-one hours later, and no that is not a typo, I gave birth to our adorable son.

Peter Jonalwyn Montgomery Lockard was born at 9:10 am on December 4th. He was 8 lbs 2 oz and 21 1/4 in. long. He is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen. Rick was thrilled to finally get to hold his son and I was overjoyed to be not pregnant and not in labor (FINALLY!)

Here would be where I would insert many wonderful pictures of our newborn baby if I wasn't so lame. I am posting this from my phone in the middle of the night while I'm feeding Peter and I can only get pictures to post from my computer so you'll just have to stay tuned for visual proof of Peter's title of Cutest Baby Ever.

My mom left for home the following Monday, leaving Robin behind. He stayed with us until the week of Christmas when the rest of my family came out and he joined them at their
hotel.

So that's the important detials of the last couple of months. I intend to post my birh story and plenty of pictures of Peter tomorrow, but you've seen how well my intentions of blogging every week went last year so we'll see...

Big News!

So one of my unofficial New Years Resolutions was to blog at least once a week. I've completely failed, having missed...um...about 20 weeks now. However, I'm picking myself back up and getting back in the saddle, or whatever fun metaphor you want to use.

I'm actually surpirsed at myself that I haven't kept up with the blog because so many exciting things have been happening in our lives. The number one piece of news that has been occupying our time and thoughts is:

We're having a baby!

I'm due at the begining of December, which puts me at about 6 months right now. We found out about a month ago that we are having a little boy! He is already an incredably active baby. He likes to keep me up at night with his rolling and wriggling and he kicks at the doppler every time my midwife tries to listen to his heartbeat. Amazing how I failed to post that earlier, isn't it? Although I did have killer morning sickness the first four and a half months so I wasn't really up to doing anything but laying around moaning and puking. Here's some fun pictures we've taken along the way:

Proof!

Fifteen weeks and getting a bump.

20 weeks and I have exploded with baby.

The next big exciting thing to come our way is:

Rick is going to become a doctor!

He'll be taking pre-med classes for a few semesters and then applying to medical school. He is excited to be doing something he is really passionate about and looking forward to learning. It's a big step for him and means a lot of changes for me, like not seeing my husband in the evenings because he'll be in class, but it'll be worth it to see Rick pursue his dream.

I'll try to catch up with posts about our activites over the spring and summer, but for now that's everything big that's been happening.

March Moving and (auto)Mobiles

And so another month passes behind us. Welcome to March.

I feel like not much has happened since I last wrote. Once I get started though, it will probably seem like a lot. Let's see, we had a game night with our neighbors and some other friends from the area. It was alot of fun. We played Dominion and Castle Panic.

We also helped Rick's sister Karen and her family move last Saturday. They are expecting their sixth in June and have ourgrown the house they were living in. THhy only moved a few miles away, and are actually closer to us now (though they aren't in our ward- sad!) so it wasn't a big move. Rick helped with all the heavy furniture, which really made him sore since technically he isn't supposed to lift anything heavier than 25 lbs. I helped with boxes and arranging furniture.

This last week we took both cars in for oil changes and maintenance and both ended up needing some major work done. The Pontiac was still okay to drive so because it was late in the afternoon I took it home and we still have to go back and have the brakes fixed. Big Roy (the Buick) needed brakes too and the um...something about a manifold gasket...intake valvue...intake gasket...um ask Rick what part it was, lol...was broken which was time consuming and expensive to fix. So we went with one car last weekend and got Roy fixed up.

I did get called to the library at Church. I'm pretty happy about it. I like the library.

That's about it. Oh, Rick and I both have a pretty nasty cold. Yuck! Hopefully we'll feel beter soon.

My newest addiction

Happy day before Valentines Day.

This week has been trudging along. The antibiotics are working to clear out Rick's sinus infection but they make him sick to his stomach so it'll be another week until he can stop taking the drugs and feel better. I got another killer migriane on Monday night that never really went away until yesterday morning so I didn't do hardly anything at all this week. I did get to visit my Grandma a few times though. I really enjoy having her close by because we get to spend time together and be friends. She is an amazing woman and I have so much fun with her.

So, it's official. I'm addicted. I'm a trekkie. Rick and I watched the new Star Trek movie last week and Rick got excited about watching all the movies again, so we watched Wrath of Khan last night. I am hooked. I'm trying to find out if Netflix carries the entire series so I can watch all the episodes. Pretty soon I'll probably be able to quote STar Trek and cross reference all the different episodes and explain the physics of warp speed.

Sick, sick and more sick.

Happy February, everyone.

This last week and a half can be summed up in a phrase: on-again-off-again. That's the way our illnesses has been going. Rick and I both felt better by last Thursday, enough so that I went and saw my newest cousin Evaleen on Friday. She is absolutely adorable and I got to hold her for almost an hour, I think, while Kim designed her birth announcement.

By Sunday however, sickness had struck Rick again and he stayed home from church. I went and taught the lesson in Primary. It went much better than the week before. I planned a lot of activities that involved getting up and down, so the kids weren't sitting for more than three or four minutes at time. That seemed like a much more managable task for them.

I was a bit derailed by the migraine/stomach flu combo I got hit with Tuesday night, but I still got a lot of organizing done at home. Most everything in our basement is boxed up and labeled in plastic tubs, so it should be much easier to find things when I need them. Our study is actually looking like a room now instead of a pile of stuff. I also got shelves put up in the kitchen and started organizing appliances and spill-over from the pantry.

Rick is feeling sick again today. He ended up going to the doctor, who diagnosed him with a sinus infection and gave him cough syrup with codine and an antibiotic. The cough syrup is helping with symptom control already and the antibiotic should clear everything up in about a week. If I don't start feeling better soon, I may have to make a trip to the doctor as well. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Further sicknes and a new reletive.

The world has righted itself and things are back to normal: I got the stomach flu also. Ick! Rick is feeling better though, so hopefully it doesn't last too long.

On a happier note, Kim had a little baby girl. Her name is Evaleen and from the pictures I've seen, she's adorable. She looks exactly like her older brother Hyrum did right after he was born. I haven't gone to see her in person yet because I'm sick. Sad. But I will hopefull get to see her later this week. Happy.

Holidays and holy terrors!

It seems like nothing really happened this last week, but as I try to organize it all in my head, it was apparently pretty busy.

Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is a holiday for Rick's office. However due to a massive deadline, he had to go into work for a little while anyway. I think he was there for four or five hours, which turned out be a holiday in comparison to the ten and eleven hour days he worked the rest of the week. He's making up for it now by staying home sick...not fake "I'm going to take a break and relax" kind of sick, but stomach bug sick. Poor hubby. He looks pretty miserable. This is unusual in that I am the one who picks up stomach bugs and hangs on that them forever and so far I'm doing just fine.

We had another snow storm on Tuesday. For about 45 minutes in was blizzarding; I had a hard time seeing across the street through all the big puffy flakes. Then is stopped, the sun came out and the snow was melted in another hour or two. Exciting, no?

Dance classes started this last week, but I did not start with them. A money complication came up and we had to reevaluate our priorites. On such short notice we couldn't really come up with an option that made sense to us, so I'm sitting this semester out. I'm actually kind of relieved. I have so many projects around the house that I want to work on and now I feel like I have unlimited time. As for feeling lonely, I've been visiting with my Grandma Schoonie and with my sister-in-law Karen more often. I think this next week I'm going to try and visit with my Aunt Kim before she has her baby. I feel very blessed to have so many family members in town...although it sometimes gets a little hard to coordinate for holidays.

I made it back to help teach Sunbeams this week. Apperently the first class was very decieving, because the kids were on their best behavior then. They have deteriorated since. I spent the entire time putting shoes back on, chasing kids down the hall (yes, one of them made a break for it), and trying to keep them from punching, shoving, pinching, spitting and screaming. I think Kamee and I both just wanted to fall over at the end. Hopefully next week will got better.
